Battle of the Bands

As well as being Head of Religion and Philosophy, Zak leads our digital vision. He was instrumental in developing our excellent online learning offering during lockdown, much to the relief of our parents, and is now leading the roll out of our school device programme.

The biennial Battle of the Bands competition saw a gathering of rockers and poppers take to the stage in a 6-band showdown for the coveted title of ‘Best Band 2022’. Individual prizes were also on offer for best musician, best singer and best original song.

There was an eclectic mix of genres performed, from punk to classic rock to soul, and even a dash of ska! Each band performed an original song and a cover and the standard was superb throughout, making the judging a big challenge. Fortunately, we had an experienced musician in James Humphrys together with his band on the panel, who expertly navigated this task and chose the winners, but not before he performed a few of his recent singles (available on Spotify!).

Huge congratulations to all who performed and a thank you to the Friends for their support in running this event.

The winners were:
Best Singer: Callum (The Provision)
Best Musician: Oscar (The Provision)
Best Original Song: ‘It’s Been Said’ (The Provision)
Runners-up: UFO (Joe, Jess, Maddy)
Best Band: Mainstream (Louis, Mikey, Noah, Karl, Tom)

You run a remarkable school with an ethic that is truly unique. It shines through in each and every boy. There’s something in the way the teachers know every boy’s talent and in the way the boys support each other (while also embracing real competition!) that’s just remarkable.
