We want to help
The Extended Day
At QEH Junior School, we understand that the traditional school day does not always fit with busy family life. Our doors open at 7.45am and boys can stay until 6.00pm (5.30pm on Fridays).
Breakfast is available in the Dining Room with a menu featuring cereals and toast, croissants and cooked options. Prices are very reasonable, and boys pay for the items they want.
Lessons finish at 3.50pm for Years 3 and 4 and at 4.00pm for Years 5 and 6. At lunch time and between 4.00pm and 5.00pm, we offer a variety of clubs.
From 5.00pm, we offer Late Stay, where the boys relax and watch some television and can have sandwiches, squash and fruit. There is small charge for this final hour of the day.
We think that our wrap around care gives your family flexibility and means you have one less thing to think about!
Lunches
We have a cooked lunch each day with a variety of choices. Our caterers, Holroyd- Howe cook the meals fresh on the premises.
There are two hot choices plus a hot vegetarian choice. There is a salad bar that boys help themselves to and a selection of hot or cold dessert. View typical menus here.
Staff sit at the end of tables to ensure good manners are observed and a variety of food is being eaten.
All dietary requirements are catered for and the catering manager is keen to support parents.
Clubs after School
We offer a variety of lunchtime and after-school clubs. Some clubs run every term and others change seasonally, so we hope there is something that attracts your son’s interest. Examples of our clubs are Lego, Maths, Steel Pans, Indoor Football, Chess, Fencing, Art and Drawing, Tennis, Current Affairs Quiz, Philosophy, Choir, Magazine, Climbing, Gardening, Drama, Instrumental Group, Judo and Running.
The great majority of these are free, however, for some specialist clubs, such as Judo or Climbing, there is a small charge. We also offer a supervised quiet class which allows pupils to do their homework or read quietly until they are picked up.
Health Centre
Medical care and health advice are provided by the School Nurses who are on duty during the school’s working day for all QEH pupils, parents, staff and visitors. The Treatment Room is open for accidents, injuries and illnesses. Detailed medical records are kept of everyone seen in the Health Centre and parents are notified as soon as possible of any problems.
The Health Centre is also the location of the Friends ‘Clothing Cupboard’ from which second-hand school uniform in good condition is available.
