Over the course of this academic year, our Futures in Focus panel series has provided pupils in Years 9 and 12 with the opportunity to hear directly from professionals across a wide range of industries. The programme has now concluded, leaving pupils with valuable insight and inspiration as they begin to consider their next steps.
Each session offered a different perspective, but a consistent message emerged throughout: careers are rarely linear, and there is no single “right” path. Pupils were encouraged to stay curious, remain open to opportunity, and continue developing both their skills and their self-awareness over time.
Below is a summary of the key themes from each panel:
Careers in IT and AI
A rapidly evolving field where curiosity and adaptability are essential. Panelists emphasised the importance of understanding AI’s capabilities and limitations, while recognising the enduring value of human judgement and creativity.
Careers in Sport
A strong focus on pursuing what you enjoy, building experience in all its forms, and recognising that trust and relationships are vital in the early stages of a career.
Careers in Health
An honest and thoughtful discussion about a demanding yet rewarding sector. Pupils were encouraged to keep an open mind, consider the breadth of roles available, and maintain a healthy balance alongside their ambitions.
Careers in STEM
There is no single route into STEM careers. Developing transferable skills, exploring different opportunities, and remaining open to change were key messages.
Creative Industries
An inspiring session centred on storytelling, originality, and confidence. Pupils were reminded that creativity is a valuable asset and can lead to a wide range of career pathways.
Economics, Finance, and Accountancy
A sector offering considerable variety and flexibility. Panelists highlighted the importance of communication, organisation, and making informed decisions about different entry routes.
Journalism
Pupils were encouraged to pursue subjects they enjoy, while actively seeking opportunities to build experience through writing, media, and communication.
Business, Entrepreneurship, and Leadership
A discussion focused on understanding personal strengths, working with commitment, and being open to opportunity, even when the future feels uncertain.
We are extremely grateful to all of the panellists who gave their time so generously to support our pupils. Their honesty and insight have made a lasting impact, and we look forward to building on the success of Futures in Focus in the year ahead.
