From golf in Cornwall to STEM across England and a rugby tour of South Africa, pupils made the most of the summer before returning to QEH for the new academic year.

It has been a busy summer at QEH, with pupils making the most of a number of trips before returning to school for the start of the new academic year.

From golf in Cornwall to a STEM trip across England, and a two week rugby tour of South Africa, there have been plenty of opportunities for pupils to try something different and spend time together outside the classroom.

Cornwall Golf Tour

More than 30 pupils headed to Cornwall for the annual QEH Golf Tour, enjoying four days of golf across some of the county’s leading courses.

The tour took a Ryder Cup style format, with pupils split into two teams for a series of matches throughout the trip. Wilf N’s team eventually came out on top to win the 2026 QEH Ryder Cup, with James S also taking home the Green Jacket after recording the lowest score on the final day.

It was another great tour, with plenty of competitive golf and a lot of fun along the way.

Manchester STEM Trip

The STEM trip took pupils to the National Space Centre in Leicester, Jodrell Bank Observatory, the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester, and Maths City in Leeds.

There was plenty to get involved with along the way, from exploring space at the Patrick Moore Planetarium to learning about the Lovell Telescope and tackling mathematical challenges based around game theory.

As Ralph K and Amira B, Year 13, reflected:

“Being able to learn about our solar system in such a visually astounding way made it an unforgettable lesson.”

The trip also included bowling and dinosaur themed mini golf in the evenings, giving pupils some time to relax and enjoy themselves after a busy day. As Ralph and Amira put it, it was “a truly unique experience” that they expect will remain a core memory of their time at QEH.

South Africa Rugby Tour

This summer’s South Africa Rugby Tour saw 38 QEH pupils spend two weeks travelling through South Africa and playing eight matches against local opposition.

The group visited Loftus Versfeld, home of the Bulls, before heading to Johannesburg, White River, and Kruger National Park. Away from rugby, pupils went on game drives, visited Chimp Eden and Croc City, and took part in a guided tour of Soweto.

It was a memorable experience for everyone involved, providing pupils with the opportunity to experience rugby in a different setting and see more of the country. We were very proud of how they represented QEH throughout the tour.

Girls Hockey Tour to Nottingham

The girls hockey squad travelled to Nottingham for a weekend of competition and team building, with 22 players taking part, including 14 girls who were new to the squad.

After pre-season training at Failand, the squad headed to the Nottingham Hockey Centre for a weekend of competitive fixtures against teams from across the county. Despite challenging conditions on the Saturday, the girls showed plenty of teamwork, with Sunday bringing some particularly close matches.

Away from the pitch, the weekend was also a great opportunity for the new players to get to know one another and for the squad to build relationships ahead of the new season.

The tour provided a strong start to the season and gave the squad plenty to build on as the year gets underway!

Welcoming New Faces to QEH

After a summer full of activity, it has been lovely to welcome everyone back for the new academic year.

We have welcomed our new Year 7 pupils as they begin life in the Senior School, alongside our new Year 12 pupils, including those joining QEH from other schools.

We are also pleased to welcome five new members of staff to QEH:

Miss J Gregory, Teacher of History and Politics
Mr M Caple, Teacher of Religion and Philosophy
Mrs S Taylor, School Administrator
Mr G Britton, Sports Assistant

A very warm welcome to all our new pupils and colleagues. We hope they have settled in well and are already beginning to feel at home at QEH.

With the new term now underway, we are looking forward to everything the coming year will bring!

Well done to Sidney who represented Gloucester County Cricket Club U18's in Dubai. A testament to her hard work she has shown in training and in matches.
