QEH Sixth Forms girls enjoyed a rugby coaching session with Bristol Bears.
QEH’s first-ever girls’ rugby session went ahead in true rugby fashion, with rain, wind and plenty of determination. Undeterred by the weather, the girls took to the field with enthusiasm, ready to give the sport a try.
Leading the session was Amber Reed, of Bristol Bears former England international and World Cup winner (2014), joined by four talented players from the Bristol Bears: Evie Gallagher and Meryl Smith (Scotland), Jenny Hesketh (Wales) and Reneeqa Bonner (GB 7s).
Working alongside Mr Cox, Head of Rugby, they delivered a fast-paced and engaging afternoon focused on developing core skills, teamwork and confidence. From passing and handling drills to two-touch match play, the girls showed great commitment and a willingness to learn and quickly demonstrated a natural understanding of the game.
The wet conditions did little to dampen spirits. There was plenty of focus, effort and good humour on display throughout, and it was clear that the players relished the opportunity to try something new under the guidance of such experienced coaches.
By the end of the session, the verdict was clear: QEH girls have an appetite for rugby. The event was a real success and has paved the way for the sport to be introduced into the girls’ extra-curricular programme next term. Sport at QEH continues to play a key role in school life, where we believe in a ‘sport for all ethos’.
Game on, QEH.
