Sustainability at QEH

Staff, students and their families alike are the focus for the Environmental and Sustainability agenda at QEH.

As a recognised Eco-School, we have achieved a Green Flag Award with Distinction over the last two years, through the hard work of an Eco-Group and Sustainability Team.

QEH’s mission is to equip our young people with necessary skills to have a positive influence on the world and to ensure they understand their wider impact on the environment. We make sure they have regular eco-related activities, get involved in various initiatives and leave the school with a better understanding of wider sustainability issues.

As an Eco School ‘we are committed to providing a welcoming, learning environment and to improving the environmental well-being of the school. We are dedicated to environmental improvements that foster a sustainable future’, as written in our Eco-Code.

QEH strives to make the most efficient and effective use of all resources used across the main School and Failand, along with minimising the adverse impacts of our own activities through continuous improvement in environmental performance.

In order to achieve this, our students are:

• Provided with termly Eco-weeks, focusing on a specific topic, with enrichment activities, initiatives and trips linked to the environmental/sustainability topic;
• Given opportunity to have direct involvement in school policy work and project work to enhance the school environment through the work of the Eco-Group;
• Involved in projects with others schools to actively address climate change and the need for action;
• Able to understand the need to address sustainability issues in future, in their personal lives and future employment.

Our school community, including staff and all student families are:

• Provided with weekly updates of our sustainability work and other more general environmental issues through our social media and newsletters;
• Given information about campaigns, initiatives and projects through regular assemblies and enrichment opportunities;

Keep up to date with the Sustainability news through our Eco-bites in the weekly QEH e-newsletter.

Pupils display genuine respect and tolerance towards each other, creating a caring and supportive community.
