Last week, photo journalist Rick Findler came to speak to Sixth Form students as part of the guest speaker programme in General Studies.

He explained the journey he took to get into photography, which began with a masters in photo journalism and taking every opportunity to take photos. It was working in a pub where he met journalist Benji Hall, who was heading to Iraq and he asked Rick to come along. Rick and Benji travelled a lot together putting themselves right on the cusp of danger to tell the untold stories through articles and photographs.

Over Rick’s career he has embarked on conflict photography in Libya, Syria, and Afghanistan, and has continued to shoot large-scale protests such as in Hong Kong. He also discussed the ethics of documenting suffering, such as through the COVID pandemic.

Rick’s impressive award-winning photography has featured in various publications including The Times, the Guardian and The Telegraph and can be viewed at https://www.rickfindler.com/

Thank you very much to Rick for coming in this week to speak to our students and sharing your fascinating career with our students.
