Head of English, Rory Harris, been selected as one of Penguin’s 2023 Lit in Colour Pioneers! He is currently completing a doctorate at Bristol University on ‘opening up’ the English literature curriculum and was delighted when a huge donation of over 400 books, including over 250 individual titles, arrived at QEH at the end of term.

QEH, together with Penguin Books UK, Pearson and The Runnymede Trust, are committed to highlighting the importance of a diverse English Literature curriculum.

“It’s essential that students are given access to books by black, Asian and minority ethnic writers and those from a range of backgrounds, to ensure a better reflection of contemporary culture and society, to provide students with both experiences beyond their own, and experiences that may resonate with them,” stated Rory Harris.

Since joining the school, we have been constantly amazed by the support and kindness given by the teachers, staff and other pupils and, above all, by the injection of fun that infiltrates throughout whether they're playing sport, completing a science project and participating in a school play.  No doubt there will be challenges ahead but we're confident the school will provide the support and guidance that has our sons' best interests at heart.
