Old Elizabethans' Dinner 12 Nov 2016
The 118th Old Elizabethans' Dinner took place on 12 November 2016 in the School Dining Room.
The annual dinner brought in record numbers – 123 guests, instead of our usual 100 or so, providing a great opportunity for Old Elizabethans, current and former staff, along with current senior boys to mingle and to unite with old school friends from years ago.
There were some significant Year groups attending: the 1976 Starters, celebrating 40 years formed a traditional long table with 23 attending; the 1956 and 1962 Starters made up a table of 10 each; and then there were the 1996 Leavers celebrating 20 years since leaving with 13 in attendance.
Earlier, on the Saturday afternoon, Mr Andrew Lewis-Barned (Development Director), Mr Steve Ryan (former Deputy Headmaster) and Mrs Debbie White (School Secretary) were at the front door to welcome Old Elizabethans and their families for a tour of school and the new Science facilities, followed by cake and a cup of tea! This was a popular and fun event bringing about 80 visitors, old and young.
This year, we staged a special recital for donors who contribute to Bursaries at the school, performed by Laurence Yip with his brother Aden - two talented violinists who attend the National Youth Orchestra. In attendance were a number of 1945 Starters amongst whom was John Cox who, during his illustrious career, was the first director of production at Glyndebourne, Artistic Director of Scottish Opera and production Director at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden.
